What does an independent testing laboratory do?

  • HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) — purity: HPLC separates the components in a sample and turns them into a graph, the chromatogram, in which each substance forms a peak. A pure compound in principle gives one dominant peak; impurities appear as extra peaks. Because the area of a peak is proportional to the amount, the lab can derive a purity percentage from it. HPLC is therefore regarded as a reliable way to determine the purity of a synthesised compound.
  • Mass spectrometry (MS) — identity and molecular mass: MS measures the mass-to-charge ratio of ionised particles and thereby yields an accurate molecular mass. For a peptide, this confirms whether the measured molecular weight matches the expected sequence. Where HPLC mainly answers “how pure”, MS mainly answers “is this really the intended molecule”.

Checking an independent CoA: QR code and Verify tab

In practice it works like this: you scan the QR code or enter the report number, and the database shows the original result directly from the source. A non-verifiable certificate can in theory be altered — a percentage raised, a date changed, a batch number pasted in.
